Baby onesies?

Category: Baby Clothes

Hi…I live in FL (where it’s hot all the time!) and I’m wondering if I can take my 8 month old daughter out in just a onesie / bodysuit? I’ve got v. cute and dressy ones from Gymboree / Gap but I’m not sure if it’s appropriate to take her out to the park or to daycare in just a onesie…

Thanks!
Thanks everyone! Appreciate your answers!!

definitely, I would bring something in case since everything here is AC, but a onesie is totally fine.

It’s just fine just make sure you put sunblock on her.

Sure. I take my son out in those. He was so skinny that none of his shorts fit him. He is just a baby, it doesn’t really matter.

Are you kidding me??!?! Of course you can take her out in a onsie! My twins lived this whole summer in cute onsies. They are easy and most importantly cool. Go ahead and take her.

Yes, I think it is just fine to take her out in just a onesie. I did the same thing with my kids when they were that small.

    Sure is.

I did it all the time… but my daughter was pretty bald, so I at least got the gerber onesies that were pink!!

I personally do not see anything wrong with it. As long as she is comfortable, that is all that matters! And chubby baby thighs are so cute, so let her show them off!

i’m not so sure if i would take her to daycare like that but the park and shopping is absolutely fine. lets face it it’s hot and no one wants to be all sweaty least of all a baby. good luck

Yes that is fine. My daughter is 8 weeks old and I keep her in onesies and socks during the day.

OH yea…she is a baby it is fine! My son wears onesies ALL the time. Just about everyday I think since he started crawling. They are just much more comfortable and easy to move around in (besides they are cute!). I say go for it.

I live in Jax and I take my 9 month old daughter out in onsies but I always pack a pair of pants that go with her outfit and sockies just in case she gets cold somewhere. I use sunblock on her and I always use the shade on her carrier or stroller to help keep the sun off of her. To daycare, most kids love onsies…..they can move around freely without getting their legs pinned inside their pants when they are moving around. At the park I let her wear them too, as long as you have sunblock on her to help protect.

My 6 month old has pretty much lived in onesies this summer. In my opinion they are perfectly fine, I mean they are babies of course they need to be comfy. Sometimes I put shorts on with the onesie but I think onesies are super cute on babies.

we live in TX & I take my daughter everywhere in just a onesie (usually w/ socks) its too hot to pile on all kinds of clothes on her

Go for it. I get squirmy about a baby going out in just a t-shirt and diaper, but a onesie, especially a cute one, is all go. I took my daughter out in just a cutesie onesie when it was hot here.

Carter’s also makes some “dresses” that are essentially a dress front sewn onto a onesie.

    I don’t see why not.

You can take her to the park or any other public place and it does not matter how she is dressed.

Daycare is another story. It should be ok, but if you are concerned I would ask the daycare just to be on the safe side. Or you can just pack a pair of shorts along with an extra onesie and T-shirt in her daycare bag and if the daycare wants to add the shorts or change her they can. You should be providing an extra outfit to the daycare anyway so nothing to worry about there.

I have actually seen babies in just a T-shirt and diaper around town but I don’t think the daycare would let you get away with that.

My original short answer still stands: Sure, why not.

But I would ask your daycare provider not only about the onesie but also ask them if there is anything else against their dress code. They may not allow other things you don’t even think of (like jackets with drawstrings, can be a choking hazard and children wearing drawstring items need to be watched closer).

You might be surprised at what they come up with.

Also, some daycares may not allow you to bring a child without shoes. Others don’t care. If the child is not walking and has on socks they think that is fine until walking age and then require shoes. This is something we don’t think of because we just throw socks on them and run out the door.

If the cops catch you doing that you will definitely be hauled off to jail and your daughter will end up in foster care. At the minimum she also needs some frilly socks or a headband.

Why not. I don’t see anything wrong with it. I used to do that all the time. Just be careful about your baby getting sunburned.
